Google logoA few weeks ago, I blogged about the reasons why it is now essential for your website to be optimised for display on mobile devices – Your Healthcare Website Turns Off 40% of Your Prospects.

We now have another reason. Google has just announced that websites that are not mobile-friendly will be penalised in searches made on mobile devices. In Google’s words …

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

As already pointed our in our previous blog, more than 40% of visits to healthcare websites now come from mobile devices. As a result of Google’s change to its algorithm, this means that 40% of the people looking for the treatments you offer are no longer likely to find your site if your do not have a mobile-friendly website.

You can read all of Google’s guidelines about making your website mobile-friendly here – https://developers.google.com/webmasters/mobile-sites/get-started/.
